Gun Trade Insider extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Christopher Graffius following his passing on 11 February after a long illness.
Christopher served as executive director of communications and political affairs at the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) for more than 24 years, becoming one of the most respected and recognisable figures within the UK shooting sector. Over the course of his career, he played a significant role in shaping industry dialogue and supporting the interests of the shooting community during periods of both opportunity and challenge.
Known for his professionalism, integrity and unwavering commitment, Christopher’s contribution to BASC and the wider trade extended well beyond his formal responsibilities. His work helped strengthen the voice of the sector, and his presence earned the respect of colleagues, stakeholders and organisations across the industry.
BASC chief executive, Ian Bell, said: “It is with great sadness that we share the news of Christopher’s passing. He had been ill for some time, but his dedication never wavered. For Christopher, supporting shooting was not simply a profession, but a vocation and a way of life. His contribution to BASC and to the world of shooting was immense, and he will be greatly missed by colleagues and friends alike. Our thoughts are with Christopher’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
BASC chairman, Eoghan Cameron added: “Christopher gave an extraordinary amount to BASC and was a tireless champion of our cause. Even in the most challenging times, his focus on defending our community never faltered. He was deeply respected across our organisation and beyond, and his commitment and professionalism will be remembered by all who had the privilege of working with him.”
BASC president, the Marquess of Hamilton added: “Christopher embodied the very best of BASC – integrity, commitment, thoughtfulness and a deep belief in the importance of what we do. He will be remembered with great affection and respect.”
His passing represents a considerable loss to the shooting community, where he will be remembered for his dedication, insight and longstanding service.
