MARK GARNIER ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF BRITISH SHOOTING SPORTS COUNCIL
Mark Garnier OBE MP has been unanimously elected as chairman of the British Shooting Sports Council (BSSC), following nomination by outgoing chairman Jonathan Djanogly. The election took place at the council’s annual general meeting on 20 March 2025.
Sir Graham Brady (Lord Brady of Altrincham) was also unanimously elected as president of the BSSC, succeeding Andrew, Lord Robathan, who has retired from the role.
All other officers - vice president, vice chairmen and treasurer - were re -elected.
The AGM was followed by a regular council meeting and the council’s annual luncheon. During the event, formal presentations were made to the retiring president, outgoing chairman and the council’s former secretary, Graham Downing, who stepped down in December 2024. Jeremy Hinde took over the secretary role on 1 January 2025. All three were personally thanked for their service and longstanding contribution to both the council and the wider shooting community.
Commenting after the council meeting, secretary Jeremy Hinde said that his first quarter in the post had been “one of the busiest” periods the BSSC has experienced, citing the growing number of challenges currently facing the shooting community.
