TWELVE MONTHS IN, AND THE TRADE KEEPS MOVING
When Gun Trade Insider launched one year ago, the mission was clear: to provide the UK’s shooting trade with a practical publication that speaks directly to the realities of running a firearms business today. Since then, we’ve covered retail strategies, legislative updates, and supplier insight to help this trade remain resilient, informed and commercially strong.
Now, as we enter our second year, the backdrop is shifting once again. The introduction of new US import tariffs on UK goods has raised concern across parts of the industry. While these duties primarily affect manufacturers and distributors working with US-based partners, it is likely that knock-on effects will ripple through the domestic supply chain. UK retailers may feel the impact through pricing, availability or delays, particularly where product lines or components have US connections.
Stephen Jolly offers a detailed examination of the tariff issue in this month’s Talking Trade feature, so I won’t revisit the details here. But the broader point is worth underlining: at a time when businesses are already grappling with regulation, rising costs and shifting consumer behaviour, external pressures like these only compound the challenge.
That’s why GTI matters. Over the past year, the magazine has grown into a platform not just for information, but for connection. We’ve brought voices from across the trade together and reflected the concerns and ambitions that define the UK gun trade in 2025.
One article in this issue explores the value of CRM systems – customer relationship management tools once thought of as the preserve of large retail chains. Increasingly, independent gun shops and shooting grounds
are adopting this technology to keep track of enquiries, streamline bookings, and deliver a better experience to their customers. It’s a sign that our sector is adapting – not just to survive, but to thrive. We also take a closer look at PARD’s decision to open a dedicated UK subsidiary – an encouraging sign that international brands are investing into the UK and offering greater access to product support and services.
On the regulatory side, this issue includes a breakdown of the proposed revisions to the Statutory Guidance on firearms licensing. As ever, our aim is to present these changes in a way that’s clear, concise and relevant to day-to-day retail operations.
As we mark this first anniversary, I want to thank all those who’ve supported us – contributors, advertisers, readers, and retailers alike. Your input shapes every issue, and your engagement is what allows GTI to remain relevant and responsive.
We’ll continue to listen, adapt and reflect the realities of the trade as they evolve. Thank you for being part of it.
Have a great trading month.
