London’s historic Edward London gunmaking name has been formally revived to mark its bicentenary, with a new company established to preserve and continue the legacy of the 19thcentury maker.
The revival is being led by London-registered Edward London (Gunmaker) Ltd under the stewardship of Lucas Micallef, who says the project aims to build on the heritage of a name first established at London Wall in 1826.
According to the company, extensive historical research has already been undertaken, including the examination of archive material and surviving Edward London firearms held in private collections and museums. The findings will help shape the future direction of the revived brand.
Micallef said: “Reaching 200 years is not just a milestone, it is an obligation. This revival is about ensuring that a historic London name is not simply remembered, but allowed to continue with the integrity it deserves.”
The company said the revival is intended to preserve the traditions of British gunmaking while respecting the historical authenticity of the Edward London name.
Further details, including production plans and future collaborations, are expected to be announced as the project develops.
Founded in 1826, Edward London was among the many London gunmakers that helped establish the capital’s international reputation for fine sporting firearms during the 19th century. The revival coincides with growing interest in preserving Britain’s historic gunmaking heritage and maintaining the craftsmanship associated with traditional London makers.
