MAKE THE MOST OF SHOW SEASON
We are now in the midst of show season, with some of you fresh from attending SHOT Show in Las Vegas. The calendar remains packed with opportunities to connect, network and explore the latest innovations in the industry. Among these, the British Shooting Show (BSS) stands out as the UK’s premier event, offering a unique chance to bring the global shooting community together on home soil.
Held annually at the NEC Birmingham, the British Shooting Show has cemented its reputation as the must-attend exhibition for UK firearms and outdoor professionals. Whether you are an independent retailer, a manufacturer, or an enthusiast, BSS provides an unrivalled platform to meet suppliers, discover new products, and strengthen your industry connections.
With 17 years of trade show experience, I know how overwhelming these events can be - especially if it’s your first time. Here are a few top tips to help you maximise your time and opportunities:
PLAN YOUR SCHEDULE WISELY
If you’re attending a show over several days, assign specific halls to each day and book your meetings accordingly. After a few late evenings, the last thing you’ll want is to trek back and forth across the exhibition. A poorly planned schedule could have you walking over 30km a day! Stay organised to save time, energy, and your feet.
PRE-BOOK YOUR MEETINGS
Don’t expect to walk up to a booth and speak to who you want, when you want. Shows like SHOT and IWA OutdoorClassics and BSS are busy, and key contacts often have full schedules. Pre-book your meetings to avoid a chaotic day.
FOLLOW UP QUICKLY
Trade shows are great for business growth, but verbal agreements can lose momentum if not acted upon. Follow up as soon as possible— strike while the iron is hot—or, better still, secure written confirmation during the show to turn conversations into results.
TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
Walking the halls for days without a booth can be exhausting. Fatigue can impact the quality of your meetings (and your knees). Take regular breaks, wear sensible footwear, and use a rucksack rather than a single shoulder bag—your back will thank you!
Have a great trading month.
