SCHMEISSER STEEL CHALLENGE DEBUTS WITH A RESOUNDING SUCCESS AT SILVERSTONE
The UK shooting community witnessed the inaugural Schmeisser Steel Challenge at Silverstone Shooting Centre, signalling a robust start for what promises to be a landmark event in the UK’s shooting sports calendar. Spearheaded by Edgar Brothers, the exclusive UK distributor for Schmeisser, the event was inspired by similar competitions across Europe, yet previously unseen in the UK.
Graham Turner, marketing manager at Edgar Brothers, expressed his enthusiasm to Gun Trade Insider, stating, “This was a competition that we put on at Silverstone Shooting Centre after seeing similar events on the continent, but not in the UK. Plans are already being made for regional events next year and a .22 class, of course, using the new Schmeisser .22, when it arrives!”
The competition was accessible to anyone holding a valid firearm certificate (FAC), with members of the trade community being offered entry at half price. At the heart of the event was the Schmeisser SP9 9mm straight pull rifle, dictating the competition’s format. The challenge featured five stages, each with five individual targets, which competitors could engage in any sequence they preferred, except for a mandatory final red plate at each stage. Each competitor had five attempts per stage, with only the quickest clear time being counted.
The organisers provided all necessary rifles and ammunition, although participants were welcome to bring their own SP9 rifles. The day concluded with an exhilarating headto-head knock-out stage, adding a competitive edge to the festivities.
Contributing to the success of the day were the excellent weather conditions, a breakfast bap and a hog roast lunch, alongside a free raffle ensuring that no participant left empty-handed. The primary aim of the event was to foster enthusiasm and demand for the SP9, setting the foundation for it to become a staple in owner-centric events. Plans are already underway to introduce regional competitions and a new .22 class, in anticipation of the new Schmeisser .22 release.
Retailers that attended the event stand to gain significantly. Increased brand awareness, valuable feedback from users, and enhanced customer service opportunities are among the indirect benefits retailers may experience. Moreover, participation in such events can help retailers strengthen their network within the industry and enhance their reputation by actively engaging in the community.
The Schmeisser Steel Challenge has set a high standard for future events, promising to be an essential fixture for both shooting enthusiasts and the trade community, fostering a vibrant shooting culture across the UK.
