WOMEN IN SHOOTING: A CALL TO ACTION BY BASC VICE-CHAIR CLAIRE SADLER
At a recent Women in Shooting event, Claire Sadler, vice -chair of BASC, addressed over 100 participants with a potent message: “We all have a duty and we all have a responsibility.” The event celebrated the third anniversary of BASC’s Women in Shooting initiative, highlighting the importance of active participation within the community.
Sadler expressed the current challenges: “For everyone here, it comes as no surprise to any one of us that we are facing numerous and well-documented threats to our way of life and livelihoods. We can now no longer have passive members of our community.”
She emphasised the need for individual accountability and proactive engagement: “Now is the time to rally, and to be counted. I want to ask every person here to take on individual accountability by selling our community, sharing our way of life and actively contributing to ensure that we can continue to thrive.”
Furthermore, Sadler called on those present to consider how they might expand community involvement and underscored the significance of joining and supporting organisations that advocate for shooting interests: “If you are not a member of any of the organisations that are relentlessly fighting for the future of shooting, you are not being counted and you are not doing one of the easiest things you can do to help us thrive.”
The Women in Shooting initiative not only facilitates discussions at events but also runs hands-on activities throughout the year, encouraging participation across different shooting disciplines and enhancing skills within the community.
