The Gun Trade Association (GTA) has written to senior personnel at Parcelforce Worldwide to discuss concerns raised by members about recent operational changes affecting firearms shipping systems.
In correspondence sent to Parcelforce, the association explained that the UK shooting industry has relied on Parcelforce services for many years and has historically worked closely with the company through a dedicated firearms support department for registered firearms dealers (RFDs).
According to the GTA, recent organisational changes and system updates within Parcelforce and Royal Mail have created a number of challenges for dealers as they transition to new operational processes.
The association said that members have reported considerable difficulties adapting to the updated systems and would welcome additional guidance and support to ensure a smooth transition for firearms account holders.
In its letter, the GTA acknowledged that large operational changes can take time to settle and emphasised its desire to work constructively with Parcelforce to resolve any issues affecting the trade.
To support the transition, the association has asked Parcelforce to consider additional guidance for firearms account holders and to review the support arrangements available to dealers during the implementation period.
The GTA said it looks forward to continuing its dialogue with Parcelforce to ensure the firearms trade can maintain a reliable and secure shipping process.
