LONDON PROOF HOUSE RELAUNCHED WITH MODERN UPGRADES AND NEW WEBSITE
The Worshipful Company of Gunmakers has announced the relaunch of the historic London Proof House, featuring significant technological advancements and a newly designed website dedicated to firearm proofing and regulation.
The London Proof House, established in Whitechapel in 1637, plays a critical role in ensuring firearm safety in the UK. As part of a modernisation initiative, the Proof House has integrated advanced proof technology, enhanced quality assurance measures, and upgraded safety systems, reinforcing its position at the heart of British gunmaking.
INNOVATION MEETS TRADITION
The Proof House has introduced state -of-the -art proof test fixtures to prevent damage to firearms during testing, along with modern Snail bullet catchers that feature replaceable ramps and wet trap systems, reducing harmful dust emissions. Additionally, new laser engraving technology ensures that proof marks are permanent and tamper-proof, strengthening security and preventing illicit modifications.
Quality assurance has also been enhanced with an ISO 9001-certified business management system and independently calibrated, non-contact inspection equipment. The organisation has also invested in secure, underground long-term parking for visitors using its services.
COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION AND OUTREACH
In addition to technical advancements, the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers continues to focus on education, apprenticeships, and outreach. The new website, www.gunproof.co.uk, serves as a hub for proofing regulations, import/export guidelines, deactivation standards, and industry resources. It will also provide updates on upcoming workshops, seminars, and exhibitions.
Richard Hefford-Hobbs, Master of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers, commented: “Modernising the London Proof House while honouring our long-standing history is a monumental achievement for the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers. These exciting new innovations and developments is not just about embracing new technologies; it is a commitment to our ongoing responsibility in ensuring the safety and integrity of the firearms industry. As we move forward, we will continue to serve the public good, upholding the highest standards of craftsmanship and safety as we have done for almost 400 years.”
