MCAVOY GUNS ANNOUNCES CLOSING DOWN AFTER NEARLY 40 YEARS
McAvoy Guns, a well-respected firearms retailer with deep roots in Standish, Lancashire, has announced its forthcoming closure. The company, run by Tim and Janet McAvoy alongside family members, has been a fixture in the community since it was founded in 1985. With the decision made after extensive consideration, the McAvoys have chosen to retire, closing a chapter spanning nearly four decades in the gun trade.
In a statement Tim and Janet expressed that while they remain open to selling the business if the right opportunity arises, their primary focus will be on gradually winding down operations. As part of this process, they are currently offering their existing stock at a 20% discount and continuing to take orders at regular prices. The team will still accept some part exchanges on a limited basis.
Reflecting on their years in business, the McAvoys shared the joy they have experienced working alongside their family. “We began in retail early and were blessed to open our own business while raising our daughters, who later joined us in the store. It has been a privilege to work with staff who feel like part of the family,” they said. The business has fostered strong connections with customers over the years, many of whom now span multiple generations.
The McAvoy family also expressed their gratitude to those in the gun trade who have supported them over the years. “We have worked with wonderful individuals and companies who have stood by us through good times and challenges alike. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to our journey.”
