SIMON WEST STEPPING DOWN FROM GUN TRADE ASSOCIATION
Simon West OBE, executive director of the Gun Trade Association (GTA), has announced his decision to step down after more than six years in the role. Simon, who joined the GTA in 2018 following a distinguished career in the Army, has confirmed that the search for his successor will soon begin.
Reflecting on his time at the GTA, Simon commented, “Somehow, I’ve reached 60. Not sure how that happened but I have also now been at the GTA for over six years. It’s the longest job I have ever done in my life. Back in 2017 my original plan on leaving the Army was to develop my long-standing hobby/business making guns. I still want to do it and before it gets too late.”
Simon expressed pride in the organisation’s transformation during his tenure, noting, “I’m rather proud of what the GTA has been able to achieve in the past few years and change into an output focused operation. But every organisation benefits from new ideas and new energy.”
The formal search for a new executive director will begin soon, and Simon has encouraged those interested in the role to reach out to him or any of the GTA directors.
During his time with the Association, Simon has been instrumental in representing the Trade and its members, particularly in political and regulatory matters. His expertise in gun technology and procurement, honed during his Army career, has been pivotal in guiding the organisation through the complexities of the UK firearms landscape.
The GTA will announce further details about the recruitment process in due course.
